Emergency Ride Home

Take the worry out of your sustainable commute. The Sonoma Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program will reimburse rides home in cases of a qualifying emergency for anyone who works or goes to college in Sonoma County and uses an alternative transportation option, such as carpooling, vanpooling, public transit, bicycling, or walking.

How does the program work?

You are eligible to be reimbursed for an emergency ride home if you work or go to college in Sonoma County and take an alternative mode of transportation other than to driving alone to work or campus.

If an unexpected circumstance arises (e.g., child is sick, bike was stolen, carpool partner unexpectedly left early, unscheduled mandatory overtime) you can be reimbursed for a ride home, via taxi, Uber, Lyft (or equivalent), car share, or rental car by submitting a reimbursement request.

Submit this form, including page 1 of the attached W-9 Form* and a copy of your receipt**, to SonomaERH@scta.ca.gov for reimbursement.

*IRS Form W-9 is required for processing reimbursements; however, the maximum annual reimbursement from the Emergency Ride Home program is below the reporting requirements.

**Most taxi companies will provide a receipt by request. For trips booked through a mobile app, you can generally find a record of your completed trip in the “ride history” menu and submit a screenshot.

Reimbursement

Each employee can be reimbursed for up to four ERH trips per year. No single trip can exceed $125 and total reimbursement may not exceed $500 per year.

Review the ERH Program Rules for more details.
